Grammar Snap — ESL Grammar Recognition Practice
What is the Grammar Snap game?
Grammar Snap is a fast-paced grammar recognition game. One sentence appears on screen at a time — students must decide quickly whether it is grammatically correct or contains an error. Questions are drawn from the ESLe College grammar database and paired: each error sentence is matched with its corrected version, so students encounter both the mistake and the accurate form within the same session.
Questions are drawn from grammar structures across A1 to C2 level, targeting the errors most commonly made by students preparing for IGCSE ESL, IB English B and Cambridge B2 First examinations.
How to play
Read the sentence carefully. Press Correct if it is grammatically accurate, or Incorrect if it contains an error. In standard mode the error word is highlighted in red — this helps students learn to identify problem areas quickly. Answer before the timer runs out to keep your score. After each question the correct form is revealed so students can see exactly what was wrong and why.
- Choose a CEFR level before starting — questions are filtered to that level
- Standard mode highlights the error word in red to guide recognition
- Guru mode removes all highlighting for a harder challenge — and awards 2× XP
- Play Solo (XP saved), Pairs or Whole Class using the mode selector
- Score, streak and XP are tracked throughout the session
Why grammar recognition is essential exam practice
The ability to identify a grammatical error quickly is tested directly in Cambridge B2 First Use of English Part 4 and in IGCSE ESL writing assessment, where students lose marks for errors they could self-correct with more careful reading. Grammar Snap trains the pattern recognition and speed that students need to catch their own mistakes under exam conditions.
