From Today to Tomorrow: Meet Four Young Achievers
Who are you today, and who do you want to become? Four young people share their stories. Maya, 14, is a confident student who enjoys playing basketball and helping her friends with homework. She speaks three languages and is currently learning Mandarin. Maya describes herself as organised and patient, but she admits she is sometimes too shy in large groups. Next year, she is going to join the school debating club to build her confidence. By age 25, she will have become a translator working for an international organisation. She believes that communication skills will open doors for her. Alex, 13, is a creative thinker who is designing video games in his spare time. He is passionate about technology but struggles with teamwork at times. Over the next two years, Alex is planning to develop his own mobile app and enter a coding competition. He will be studying computer science at university, and he is determined to become a software engineer. Alex knows his future will require both technical skill and better social skills. Sarah, 15, is an ambitious musician who is currently performing in her school orchestra. She is kind-hearted and reliable, though she worries about making mistakes. This summer, she is going to audition for a youth music academy. Within five years, she will be touring Europe as a professional violinist. Sarah’s dream is demanding, but she is working towards it every single day. These four young people show us that today’s interests and values shape tomorrow’s careers. Your present actions are building your future self.Vocabulary Practice
