Reading — My Favourite Hangout Spot
Read the passage on the left, then answer the questions one by one.
My Favourite Hangout Spot
The shopping centre near my house is my favourite place to hang out with friends. There are many shops, a cinema, and a food court with different restaurants. I really like it because there is something for everyone.
On weekends, my friends and I usually meet at the shopping centre. There are comfortable seating areas where we can sit and talk. The cinema shows new films every week, so we often watch movies together. The food court is great too — there are fast food restaurants, pizza places, and ice cream shops.
I think the shopping centre is the best place for young people to spend time. It is clean, safe, and there are always people around. If you want a good place to hang out, you should visit the shopping centre!
Vocabulary Practice
Practise the 12 key vocabulary items from this lesson through three exercises.
Vocabulary Practice — Unit 3: Good Places to Hang out
Work through all three parts. Each part uses the same vocabulary in a different way.
Writing Task
Your English class is making a guide to good places for young people to hang out in your city. Your teacher asks you to write a short review of your favourite place. Tell your classmates what it is, what you like and what you don’t like about it, and whether they should visit.
You should address:
- What is the place and your overall impression?
- What is one good thing (facility, activity, or atmosphere)?
- What is one problem or weakness?
Plan:
Introduction: Say the name of the place and whether you think it is good or not good.
Body paragraph 1: Describe one thing you like. Use ‘There is’ or ‘There are’ to say what is available.
Body paragraph 2: Describe one thing you don’t like or that is disappointing.
Conclusion: Say if your friends should go there or not, and why.
